Little Chefs

Coplea has been helping to make supper once or twice each week for almost two years now. She really, truly enjoys cooking. (How fortunate for me!) As our Mommy/Coplea date this past week, I took her to a Pampered Chef show in Maumelle, and she had simply the greatest time. So very talkative afterwards, thinking through all the new ideas she would like to try. An added blessing that evening was that Coplea's name was drawn for the doorprize, and she got a "Season's Best" cookbook. Oh, the possibilities. . . .

We spent an additional hour and a half getting groceries together since the show had replaced my anticipated store run. It was really fun shopping late at night with my blossoming 11 year-old, listening to her questions and ideas. One thing perplexed her, though. We had put Monterey Jack cheese on the list for a Mexican Lasagna dish Coplea decided to try, but the recipe called for "One cup of Monterey Jack cheese, divided." She asked if we needed to change the list since we would have to buy both Monterey and Jack cheeses. Very cute!

The next day, she was reading the instructions for a zoology activity and was perplexed once again. It called for "one soft drink can." She asked if that meant we would need to buy a juice box or something that wasn't hard like a Coke can? I had never thought of it that way! All a matter of perspective, I guess.

One more bit of kitchen humor. . .

We all enjoyed yummy grilled chicken kabobs, green salad and couscous for supper just now. Caris repeatedly asked for "more of that goose-goose." Another new funny. . . One night soon I'll have to serve "Chicken from a pig with a side of goose-goose."
